Welcome to High Release
In early September of 2010, I met with Ben Wiggins at a Chipotle in the University District of Seattle to discuss the launch of what would become Skyd Magazine. I had weeks earlier met with Cultimate and MSSUI’s Skip Sewell who suggested I consult with Ben on his experience running The Huddle, ultimate’s most revered resource for strategy from top players. Ben and Andy Lovseth had been running The Huddle for 2 years, and were in the process of selling it to USA Ultimate. To me, Ben and Andy’s work on The Huddle represented the very pinnacle of thought revolving around the sport of ultimate. It also just happened to be the only thing out there. During that brief lunchtime meeting, Ben helped outline and confirm a path that led Skyd to many successes. I have his support along with many others and the ultimate community at large to attribute for the success for Skyd.
It is with that same inspiration and support, I am pleased to announce the launch of High Release. In many ways, High Release is the spiritual successor to The Huddle. Like its predecessor, High Release brings the finest minds in the sport together to discuss issue-centric strategies, concepts and ideas. But High Release isn’t just about becoming a better ultimate player by reading into the mind of the experts, it’s about being an ultimate player, about building a tournament, about sharing stories and experiences that we can all relate to and add to our own collective associations with a sport that defines us.
I’m pleased to share the labor of this project with Jonathan Neeley. When I told Ben about my plans for Skyd, Jonathan was the first name that came up. Over the years, Jonathan has been a collaborator and friend and has constantly challenged my perception of the sport.
What can you expect from High Release? Expect the best.
Sincerely,
Elliot Trotter
